| The first thing to say is, don’t read any spoilers before seeing it - and that includes the IMDb page which gives away one of the biggest plot twists. Serge is an elderly, very wealthy restaurateur living on an exclusive island in the south of France with his wife, daughter, granddaughter and housekeeper. One day a woman calls. She says she is Stephane, his estranged daughter from an adulterous relationship. Stephane is poor, in a dead-end job, borderline homeless and her girlfriend is in prison. Serge’s family are suspicious, but Serge invites her to visit. And that’s when the fun starts. This is a very clever, funny thriller with some really cunning twists. Reviewers have compared it with Succession and Knives Out but it also reminded me of Saltburn. The almost entirely female cast are led by Call My Agent’s Laure Calamy, who is superb as Stephane. |
