| Because the demolition will diminish the road's character, the plan squeezes too much in and is out of keeping. We would be in favour of a development which includes the facade at least of the existing building - a la Albion - and are certainly not opposed to sensitive development and the creation of more and appropriate housing. Shakespeare Road is one of the few with almost exclusively 19th century buildings (can't help the bombed ones!) in a variety of styles that work well together. We didn't think this proposal would enhance it. There are also problems of light, privacy, party walls and access. |
