Hardy Court, including the row of shops at street level is due for demolition. In the original regeneration plan there was to be new ground floor retail space, including a supermarket, in the new development on the opposite side of Bollo Bridge Road. But that no longer features in the proposal being considered next week, which is entirely residential. The two remaining shops (the newsagent and the off-licence) have been told it could be up to 5 years before alternative, new premises are available. So it looks like the growing number of South Acton residents moving in to the new residential units will be stuck with a row of mainly boarded up local shops for some time to come. London & Quadrant were awarded a £550m contract in May this year to deliver Phase 2 of the South Acton regeneration plan. They were due to consult on their proposals by Autumn 2010. No sign of anything so far. |
