thanks for the extra information Peter. I am very interested in what goes on, as a resident, and i agree putting up the same things, just newer, that you have just pulled down seems an odd logic...However having lived in a very well managed but ugly block a few years ago i realised it wasnt the buildings that were important, or as important as the managemnt of it. We had a great caretaker, the communal areas were regularly cleaned and plants and grass areas were cared for. But the management costs were on the high side. In principle i think anything that doesnt give people ownership of their dwelling and their garden is flawed. You either pay high management charges or it deterioates. Ive looked a little into the pictoral history of Acton and the clearance of victorian housing and larger older homes post war has ruined, to a degree, what was quite an attractive borough. Personally im not a fan of whats been put up but it is of course an improvement. Do you know if the row of shops is either being refurbed or pulled down? If you want a sense of community then a coffee shop or 2 and some attractive stores can do wonders and at the moment they are anti that! |
