Message: Nathan i couldn't agree with you more. The Regeneration of the HIgh Street is long overdue. Mind you, the Oaks shopping centre, now in its last stages was given planning permission because it would regenrate the High Street. No one would have objected if it was two stores less, had a bit more public space and was stepped back from Churchfield Road. But its a tad overpowering. Im sure we can agree there. The issue with parking around the Hight Street is that the Churches and the Mosque have no parking of their own and draw the faithful from quite a wide area. Whether you believe that people should drive to worship or not, we have older/disabled residents to consider. Pubiic transport isn't great in parts of Acton. Then there is the issue of what permissions the Developers are getting. I understand from local estate agents that there is now a glut of one and two bedroom apartments, and a shortage of family houses in Acton. Its not development that people object to, It is the detail and the affect on current residents If the local community can acquire the Old Library for an Arts Centre, it will do a great deal to regenerate the High Street. Another block of flats or estate agent offices will not. Would you like to help? You would be welcome. |
