I like Ben Stiller a lot but had problems with his latest vehicle in which he plays an Everyman having a mid-life crisis.

Brad lives in Sacramento with his wife and teenage son. He runs a Non Profit. All the men he was friends with at university have become rich and successful and he keeps comparing himself to them.

When he flies to Boston with his son to look at colleges and have interviews, he is forced to ask one of these old friends for a favour.

The problem is that Brad is deeply unsympathetic. His envy is corrosive; he even blames his wife for not pushing him harder at one point. He's proud of his son, hopes that the boy can fulfill his dreams, but then realises that he will envy his son's success. He pervs over a couple of young college women, imagining himself shacked up with them both the way one of his old friends is with two young women. He fantasies about his in-laws dying so they can inherit and is furious when his wife comments that they may leave their estate directly to their grandchildren anyway.

So, Ben Stiller is a likeable actor but his character here is badly in need of a good slapping.
