Some older cars are OK.  It's supposed to be emission based not simply age based. Use the TfL checker to find out - it is here with other information and it did include a scrappage scheme for the poorest off when I last read all the links: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ulez-expansion Just one of the reasons for so many SUVs being bought was surely that people were replacing their even longer Volvo estates etc which took up so much parking room. Small cars don't always suit bigger families. Heavy marketing has a lot to answer for and as we have seen (and hear from the adverts for claims) many vehicles do not live up to all the promises.
