The point of this post is, if you genuinely care about air pollution and the environment, there's one very simple thing you can do which will make a big difference and save you money too: If replacing your car, buy a light NORMAL car, NOT an SUV. The evidence is overwhelming that an SUV will produce more emissions in manufacture and in use.  the International Energy Agency has found that SUVs are the SECOND LARGEST CAUSE of the global rise in carbon dioxide emissions over the past decade. Buying a normal car instead will not only save you money. It could well also save you from falling foul of future restrictions/bans on SUVs, already under discussion. See the references in the original post. It's a win-win for anyone thinking of changing their car, e.g. perhaps because of the ULEZ.
