Interesting list and underlying reasoning. The amusing thing to me is that most (but not all) of these "acts of kindness" are simply the exercising of good manners which were automatically expected of you when I was a lot younger. Sadly the change in overall emphasis may indirectly reflect the move to personal gratification (you need to feel good about doing it) versus general gratitude (happy to do for others whatever the immediate personal cost in time and effort). If I could add to the list it would be the giving up of or moving seats to accommodate others on public transport - a rarely seen act these days from my own general observations. |
