I would hope people who perform acts of kindness are not just religious driven (if that is the inference) and on the issue of modesty, again I think this is an internal driven thing and not just based on theologians lessons. I think inherent in the thread is a view by some that you need to record and track good deeds plus be able to proclaim such acts. The reference to Paul McK.'s tweet made me laugh in the same way as the earlier mentioned book of keeping track of deeds for a year, since we seem to be off into the world of management performance indicators! Ultimately I believe (albeit naively) most people do good deeds because of the personal instinct (whether inborn or developed) that this is how they want to lead their life and not because of the potential payback or rated against any performance benchmarks. Smiling reflects happiness which develops a feel good factor as mentioned but one of the most charitable people I ever met was very introverted and unemotional, even when they were clearly bringing a lot of happiness to others. Thankfully in this area as in many others there is no one size that fits all! |
