Paul, these people are very crafty. Possibly because they are 'inebriated' most of the time and don't know what they are doing. The agencies involved are being 'taken in' and because of that they are attracting more 'inebriated' people because word has gone round far and wide that they will not be moved on. The Homeless Charity - good work they may be doing but it doesn't seem to be working on the Mount. These people must be living on benefits and handouts and not in gainful employment. What they need is a purpose in life which does not involve drinking cheap alchol which is paid for in-directly out of the working population's taxes. You cannot wonder that residents are becoming frustrated about the appropriate agency's inability to deal with this problem. If their drinking habits cannot be stopped, then perhaps the 'luncheon club' (which is run by the Catholic Church in the High Street) could agree to let them sit in their dining room following their luncheon, where I presume they have toilet facilities which they could use until it is time for them to return to their homes. A good use of a Church premise I would have thought. Or perhaps the Church of England Church on the Mount could let them use their hall, which I know has toilet facilities. At least then they would be, in the dry and causing no one any discomfort. It would then give the church agencies time to try and help these people when they are less inebriated - else this yet again is fast becoming, an unacceptable problem. Removal of anything that can be sat on in the area would be a good start. |
