Thanks for posting the excerpt Sarah. However by my reading the Goldsmith's Estate is the 'land east of the railway line'. The poets corner area is mainly Victorian and Edwardian houses and west of the line. It says in the piece that until 1920 there were only a few sales for houses. this is incorrect as parts of First, Second and Third Avenues were built in the early 1900's on 99 years leases from the GC. Poets Corner was in common usage 25 years ago.... |
