And maybe Waitrose wasn't always quite as posh as it is now? I took 'wrong side of the tracks' to mean relative to Chiswick and Ealing. In terms of property prices, that's been true for as long as I can remember. My parents lived in a bedsit in Milton Rd when they were first married ( and used to go to Acton public baths for a bath and to do their laundry) they said that it wasn't referred to as Poets corner then and that the term was coined by estate agents to make the area sound more dreamily romantic. |
