| Ellie, I suppose this young girl has had a lucky escape. If the owner isn't assertive enough to get back to her, or professional for that matter, then she's better off not working there. I suppose you could say that what she lost in money she gained in experience. When I was learning my trade at the BBC I would trial around all different kinds of people and jobs after work and in my own time unpaid. I did that for years and gained a lot of experience, as well as getting myself known and networking. I suppose one could look at unpaid work as such, as long as the person was getting something out of it and wasn't being exploited. If people said no to such exploitation, we'd all be better off. I think she can learn from this, hopefully, and ask questions and set boundaries upfront. Good luck to her. |
