Some advice please........ A young girl i know applied to an advert in the window of a hair and beauty salon in Ealing (which also has a salon in Acton....no name mentioned ) for an apprenticeship. She had a short interview and was asked to come back the following day for a 'trial day,' working in the salon which she duly did from early morning to around 7pm ( a full day ). At the end of the day she was told by the owner that he would 'let her know' if she was a suitable candidate. This was many weeks ago and there has been no contact by the owner at all and when this eager young girl on more than one occasion called the salon, she was constantly fobbed off with excuses like......the owner is not available to talk........the owner is sick........the owner hasn't made his mind up..... I know when we have taken on prospective employees on a trial basis we have always paid them for that time whilst working and always, always follow up with a yes or no letter. She has neither been paid for that days work or had any contact by the owner as to whether she was successful or not. Not only does she feel 'used' as a free days labour but is now wondering how many other prospective applicants were treated in the same way. Bad business practice i believe......and very demoralising to the applicant involved. What do you folks think ?.......should she have been paid for the days work ?........... |
