Lots of Irish films this year and none of them very cheery. This one certainly isn’t. Aisha is a Nigerian asylum-seeker waiting a decision about whether she can stay. In the meantime (unlike in the U.K.) at least she is allowed to work. But the rest of the system is just as arbitrary and unfair - which I didn’t know.

She meets an Irish security guard with a dodgy background and not a lot happens.

Aisha is played by Laetitia Wright - who is everywhere this year and is very good. And compelling. But it is a bit miserable throughout.
