As I understand it, Ealing Council approved this planning/change of use permission, some months AFTER Govt legislation was passed that BANNED fast food joints opening within a certain area of a school (in support of the Govt's drive to encourage healthier eating among young people).  This was early 2008.  The LA did not consult with the local residents, etc as they (I believe) are supposed to do.  The school was made aware of this (last year) AFTER they should reasonably have been notified of the planning permission, and AFTER it was approved and therefore any objections which would have been raised were not given the chance to be heard.  From this point onwards, I understand the school has been lobbying, to no avail, and only now is it made public - it would appear that Ealing Council have not acted properly - which is why the Local Govt ombudsman has been approached (I believe)!
