Thank you Sara and Angela for your kind words - all responses to this post have so far been very sympathetic and comforting. And our immediate neighbours and friends have been wonderfully kind too. You are lovely people.

We even got a telephone call last night from Genevieve - the local vet who looked after both Jaz and his brother (who had to be put down two years ago). She said she always checks the site to see if there have been any posts about losts cats or dogs so she can keep an eye out for them both locally and coming through her surgery.

But what a lovely thing to do. We were all very touched by her concern and real sorrow at Jaz's death.

And, ironiclly, Angela, we also love dogs.

Both Rosie's family and my own have had dogs and cats for literally generations, so although shattered by this incident, we certainly haven't suddenly become dog haters.

Although, as I intimate in my original post, we do sometimes feel real anger against this particular dog (a large black and tan greyhound it turns out, and not grey as I originally thought) and want to lash out in retribution...

And we found out last night that the 'tether' used to restrain this large dog was a piece of ribbon.

Which makes us even more sick inside...
