I'm afraid that you're incorrect. According to the last lot of plans we got, the money is not being demanded up front but at the end of the project. This means that we will have to get bridging loans to make up the shortfall, but the interest that this will attract has been costed in. In addition, the council's plans say right up front that no one will be moved from the Priory before there is a permanent place for them to go to in the town hall. Admittedly this is at odds with Patricia Walker's statement that the Priory Centre is being considered for the new primary school that Acton needs. But if that goes ahead, I think the whole regeneration exercise will collapse. I'm not 'trusting' at all - probably far too cynical for my own good. But I do think the council team deserve a little space (not a lot but a little) to show their good faith. If you want to raise any of these issues, by all means come to the Churchfield Community Association open meeting on Wednesday, 24 November at 7.30pm in St Mary's Church Hall, where Jonathan Kirby, the town hall regeneration project manager, will be available for questioning. And you'll also be able to sample some delicious - and FREE! - food from L'Oriental and the new Thai restaurant on Market Place! |
