You misunderstand me. My point is that this regeneration will save the town hall (or town halls - the one on Winchester Street and the one on the High Street are two separate structures). Left as they are, they and all the associated buildings will simply remain more or less empty and unused and will continue to decline. Even those that are busy but will not make it past the regeneration - i.e. the Priory and the swimming baths - are well past their sell-by dates in terms of building fabric, although certainly not in terms of passion and engagement. I agree about the failure of trusteeship. That's why I've taken part in this regeneration exercise, both as an individual and as a representative of the Acton Business Forum. I'm not part of the council, though to be fair, so far they've been pretty good about keeping in touch and running things by us. But then we are ever vigilant! |
