The whole point of the regeneration plan is put as many of Acton's assets as possible to use for the community - to revitalise the town centre and use the space for the good of local residents and businesses. It would be fab if that could all be financed out of public money. But we all know it can't be - not in the present financial circumstances and probably not when/if things improve. Meanwhile the fabric decays and the useage is declining and inappropriate. Aren't we better to try and bring some of the best parts and those most central to Acton into good use - i love the plan for converting the town hall into the library with a suspended mezzanine...what a great use of the space and an improvement on what we have now. Likewise, there are due to be community spaces to replace the not wholly suitable ones in the Priory. Plus a big gym whose membership will subsidise other leisure facilities like the two pools. But only investment from developers will pay for this - Ealin is never going to provide more than the 12 million promised is it? So there have to be sacrifices. I would rather compromise and get some good facilities, greater energy, things to do and then housing and retail to pay for it which will itself help us to a more prosperous town centre - rather the than the other option...what is the other option? Oh yes do nothing and let it crumble. Where's the advantage to any of us in that? |
