Didn't mean what precisely? What Ian Brown actually said at the TfL Board meeting was: "we've got all sorts of problems with signalling design with Network Rail ... The dilemma for me is to ... make sure they guarantee to have the service well in time for the Olympics, of 8 trains an hour ... We're going ahead with the ... 3 months' blockade from Gospel Oak to Stratford. We're going to do all the physical stuff, but we're going to keep the old signalling going, ... then Network Rail have got to come back and do the signalling later. So we have actually secured ... the Olympic frequency" The implication is that they can achieve 8 trains per hour without new signalling, which many people doubt. It's not clear exactly when the resignalling work will now be done "later". Jerry assumed that it meant post-2012, and that is certainly supported by the last bit I quoted above. I'd very much like to see what the "lady from TfL" (Myriam Walburger?) actually said, because if it conflicts with what Ian Brown said atb the board meeting, I'd like to write to her myself. If anyone wants to hear the full Ian Brown statement (it only lasts for about a minute), you can get to the webcast via http://www.london.gov.uk/webcast/feb10/tflboard_030210.asx The statement begins at 01:15:15. |
