| is a sort of thriller/who dunnit based on the book by Robert Harris and co scripted by him. Directed by Roman Polanski(!) and starring Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan and Tom Wilkinson, it's OK but the slightly limp conclusion is more of a let down here than in the book and the plotting seems slightly dafter and implausible somehow. Liked the music and there were some good and funny lines - especially by and about the Blair-like former Prime Minister with the much cleverer wife. Plus - and I didn't notice this till the end, we went straight into the story at the start with no credits....actually come to think of it, so did HP and the DH. Now there's a film-making innovation to support. Another one I missed when it opened hnearly a year ago. |
