| Mine was "Telstar" by the Tornados in 1962 when I was 8, thus helping to propel it to number one. I think it cost 6/9d (about 33p) though that's proved surprisingly hard to verify on Google. It was probably the first pop record in our household, as my parents had only a few crackly classical 78s and stuff like Flanders and Swann LPs to play on the radiogram. After that the floodgates opened, with the coming of the Beatles, Kinks etc. |
