How can we regenerate Acton High Street? Given the narrowness of the High Street, it seems to me that one of the things that is blighting it, is the HGVs that use it as a transit route across west london. This does not mix well with a pedestrian shopping area and public buildings at the heart of the Acton community that any regeneration scheme has to promote. So, it seems to me that what is called for is restrictions on HGV vehicles using the High St, and reserving the High St for cars, bicycles and buses. HGVs could be better routed via the A40 if transiting west london. Access to it for HGVs could be from Shepherds Bush to the east and Hanger Lane to the west. I think this would make the High Street a much more pleasant place to shop, access the Library and Baths etc. The bus service along Uxbridge Road would be improved by less traffic hold-ups.
