Shared Ownership Tenants require service charge clarification

A typical example of a leasehold service charge dispute can illustrated by the case of the residents of Bromyard House, Acton, who as shared ownership tenants claim they are being charged excessive service charges by a housing association and are demanding to know where their money is being spent. The leasehold owners are making arrangements for a petition against what they deem to be  'unfair' service charge invoices.

Chairman of the Bromyard House Residents' Association, Hitesh Tailor said the prospect of affordable housing has diminished with the high service charges, in addition to council tax, mortgage payments and rent.
Mr Tailor said: "We have a legal obligation to pay our service charges but we don't feel it represents value for money. Dominion should be looking at ways of reducing the financial burden for many who are having to deal with reduced household income.

MP for Ealing, Acton and Shepherds Bush, Andy Slaughter, commented in the local preess: "I have always had concerns about the Bromyard house development and their supposedly affordable housing policy."

"The housing association deliberately seems to be dressing something up as 'affordable' which it isn't and people who are desperate to find homes think these are affordable."

"People are struggling financially and service charges need to be renegotiated; housing associations have an obligation to tenants and leaseholders for those on moderate means."

Should you find yourself in a position where you are believe you are being overcharged, for a small fee of £195 plus VAT we can arrange for an expert to conduct a service charge health check which will quickly determine if you have any foundations to dispute the service charges
