More clues. I had naively thought that pollution from a local source would be more concentrated on a calm day, or one with light wind. So I was surprised by the graph below, plotted from 2005 samples when the wind was from the west to south-west. As the wind seldom blew at over 5 metres/sec, data at higher speeds is unreliable. The graph implies that wind helps to release the PM10, as well as disperse it. Any other explanations? To Vlod's suggestion of water spray, I add a wind break. But not knowing exactly what the source is, I'm probably completely off the mark. |
