Fortunately OUR foxes aren't a 'problem', but you have to appreciate, Robin, the Koupparis family now have a different point of view.

Regardless of how rare this incident is, many parents with children that young will now be paranoid about leaving them running around in the garden, especially if foxes visit at night. That's life.

And from my own observation of fox activities, they don't sleep throughout the entire day.

Then again, from my own observation of fox activities, they didn't get Toby Youngs cat!

I read that the Koupparis family had been having a BBQ that day, so my guess is that a regular fox may have traced a scent of food, from the the patio, to the babies bedroom, perhaps from shoes. The attack was, biting at the babies through the bars of the cot. Quiet night, parents watching TV, patio doors left open, inquisitive fox.

About OUR well behaved regulars, often lazing around in the garden during the day, three, occasionally four, the most I've seen in the garden at once is five. Mum, dad and three cubs.

People next door are not particularly tidy, over flowing bins the day before collection, occasionally food waste visible, I've never, ever seen a fox in the little alley where they put their rubbish out during the week.  The foxes live mainly in their garden.

Never seen black bags ripped open. They rarely approach the house, nothing to eat that they like.

Within the last couple of weeks, I saw a fox actually catch a pigeon and carry it off, (didn't share it with siblings). I saw another dig up and munch what looked like the carcass of a dead mouse or pigeon.  I remember thinking, 'I certainly wouldn't want to be bitten by him',

So these foxes can't have acquired a taste for easy pickings from a bin bag.   (After KFC, who'd want to catch and eat a raw pigeon, . . . . hmmm, second thoughts. . . .)

The foxes prowl around at night, the way cats do.  Sometimes sit together in the middle of the road. Local cats don't run away when they see a fox, but the cats keep an eye on them. The foxes ignore them. Even cats smaller than themselves.
