| Foxes have been on the rise ever since the demise of the old refuse bins. The wire cages, which are no longer supplied, were not successful as foxes (and cats) could climb into them. The black bin bags are fast food shops for foxes and rats. Foxes are noticeably bolder now; at one time my cats would chase them away if they came near our house, now the cats run home in fear. One of my neighbours, in Messaline Avenue, killed a fox that had his cat in its mouth by hitting it with a poker. Some years prior to that, another neighbour was in her bath, one warm summer's day, on the first floor, when a fox walked into the bathroom. Her baby was asleep in a cot with the bedroom door open, so she leapt up in fear of her daughter being attacked; fortunately the fox left before it discovered the baby. |
