From my point of view, the problem is that the Council has a track record of 1) only consulting when the main decisions have been taken and 2) misrepresenting residents views. Given this record, how can those taking part in the "consultation groups" have any confidence that their views will truly be taken into account? Isn't it a bit like similar procedures in Stalinist Russia? "By how much do you want your steel targets to be increased?" "Which particular Communist would you like to vote for?" |
