Michelle, before the Mount was 'rennovated' there was an underground public toilet near to the bus stop. This was a place used by 'gays' for opportuning. And I understand some young boys were acosted and people brought to book about it which prompted its closure. But that was a long time ago. So things have got better. The toilet was removed and you now have what there is now. nAn Action Acton initiative with local residents input. See the other posting 'Incident on the Mount....' by Gary, see below 'Action Acton do indeed read these forums. Unfortunately providing outreach support comes at a cost and like everything else in the country funding for such projects is being squeezed. The St Mungo's outreach worker was for instance funded through the councils Liveability programme through the office of the deputy prime minister. When the funding finished so did the initiative. The council no longer support voluntary organisations with direct funding so any funds we receive are won in competitive tenders. (The councils input was 1.6% at the best of times) The problem is therefore that whilst we and other voluntary organisations/charity's are aware of these local problems it isn't always possible to do anything about it.' from me to Gary: 'Gary: So you are saying that because there is no money, the problem cannot be solved? Why do these people come to Acton? Are they residents of the London Borough of Ealing? and Gary responded 'yes'. So no money = no action by the agencies who are able to help. There are no programmes in place. So the anti-socials come to be fed and watered till they eventually end up in hospital. |
