But Dee, just WHO is supposed to be dealing with the problem? The drunks on the Mount have been there for as long as I can remember, before the 'refurbishment' took place. In fact, from memory, it was much worse before. There is obviously a reason that these people congregate here in Acton. You don't get them in the new square in Hammersmith. I can't see how getting the police out there more is going to do anything apart from move them on down the street to other places such as outside the Oaks or in the Burial Ground. It's a social problem and I don't have an answer for that. It's been suggested that the people on the Mount are regular users of Emmaus House a fantastic charity that looks after 'vulnerable' people. So maybe the key is to speak to them about what programmes they have in place for homeless/addicted people. And maybe this sort of place needs more money. |
