From what I have gathered from the media over recent weeks, a step change in planning policy is in the pipeline, which would see these sort of out-of-context, boxy, poorly designed towers ruled out in a predominantly low-rise suburban environment. Report here: https://policyexchange.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Building-Beautiful-Places.pdf This perhaps explains the Council’s rush to approve as many towers as possible, before a new policy comes into force that would see them being refused. Anything that can delay the current proposals would be worth doing if it could save Ealing and Acton from a blight that will be there way beyond most of our lifetimes, We need to stop Julian Bell and his developer chums in their tracks before it's too late. Appealing to Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State for Housing, might have more traction than to the Mayor. The Mayor wants to be able to spout a huge number of new housing units in the run up to the Mayoral election in May. I doubt he cares about quality or safety, just big numbers. This government might be an ally on this occasion. |
