No surprise then there. There’s a pretense that planning decisions are not party political, a view that requires an extraordinary naivety to believe. Labour councillors have been content to put through ugly, incongruous tower blocks in Acton because they’re confident they’ll always win council seats in Acton and thus can ignore those residents who oppose them. With the Towers in West Ealing, things are more difficult as Labour holds the Cleveland seat but by a smaller margin, so they may be turned down (just as the Tesco towers in Perivale – another potential marginal area for Labour - were refused). As long as Acton remains a one party state, campaigning and protesting will come to nought; one only has to look at North Acton (and soon at Friary Park) to see this truth in physical form. |
