Today we had our business rates bill in for 2009/10. It has increased by 25%......Yes!! 25 percent !!! Immediately called Ealing Business Rates department who stated that transitional relief has been scrapped for this year. This in effect will now bring our monthly payment to well over £600........We are a small business and this is going to have a big impact on us......I was of the understanding that rates would only go up by 5% (set by Whitehall, not the council). Can you wonder why so many small traders are closing....hence so many empty shops and no more opening up.....There are only so many costs we can pass on to our customers but this one takes the biscuit. The small business owner needs all the help they can get at the moment.....It's not easy for us !!! Are there any other business owners in Acton that have recieved the same rate rise as us? Apologies for the rant......feeling very deflated.
