Passenger numbers are expected to surge even higher once the HS2 link to Old Oak Common opens Construction of Class 345 Aventra has begun in Derby The Mayor of London has provided an update on when 10 new Elizabeth line trains currently being built will enter service. Sir Sadiq Khan has confirmed the first batch of trains will begin operation this year, with the remainder appearing on the line in 2027. Last October Transport for London (TfL) announced work was underway to build 10 Class 345 Aventra trains in Derby. The Elizabeth line already accounts for one in six UK rail journeys, but TfL expects it to be even more popular once the HS2 Old Oak Common station opens in Ealing. Responding to a question from Labour Assembly Member Anne Clarke, Sir Sadiq added: "Developing a new timetable is a complex process. Transport for London is working closely with Network Rail and Heathrow Airport, which manage parts of the Elizabeth line infrastructure, alongside other passenger and freight operators to deliver this. "The business case submitted to Government which secured funding for the additional trains demonstrated that the investment is very high value for money."
