Problems with railways are most likely to be with the trains or the signalling system. Unlikely to be the trains as they're new and if that were the problem we would have heard of a recall under warranty to correct the problem. Most likely the signalling system is the biggest issue. Crossrail was over budget and late, delays in the latter period being largely driven by the inability to make the new signalling system work with the existing ones. The prime suspect is therefore compromises in the signalling system to get it into service, the consequences of which are now being seen. Sadiq Khan bears responsibility for this as he was in charge of delivering the project and is now not being honest about the problems, leaving people like me with no technical knowledge of railways to try to guess what's happening from the meagre information available. |
