| 3-4 weeks ago traditional trucks collecting from my street were finally replaced with trucks that have two sections at the back, so that food could be stored separately from other recycling. Today we had another variant, i.e. a NEW kerbside recycling truck with 3 or more side sections. Wheelie bins not in use this time. Couldn't see how items were being separated though. Eg if glass separated from tins, if paper separated from cardboard, whether plastics, food, etc, kept separate. What was strange was that it arrived 4 hours later than usual, and collected from each side of the street separately (i.e. came back an hour later to do this side). Surely this makes the route twice as long? Takes twice the amount of time, and potentially doubles the manpower costs? Wasn't the case with the old slightly smaller kerbside vehicles. Plus, I don't think I have ever seen slower working more despondent looking bunch of refuse collectors in my entire life! I know it's hot, but deary me... You'd think they'd want to work faster and knock off early to enjoy the weather? Else find somewhere cooler to be! Maybe collection time have been pushed back to allow for potential extra Olympic traffic? Or maybe the route has changed - same week as new equipment implemented! Didn't notice whether the street cleaner came round before or after collection. Anyone else notice anything strange or similar today? |
