Dear Lorna, sorry to hear about your experience. As others have pointed out, it is practical these days to always have a mobile phone on your person at all times. I recommend also placing in your contacts your safer neighbourhood team phone number. Please note, the teams are not employed on a 24 hours/7 day a week basis so it would be useful to also know along with 999 the Met non- emergency number 0300 123 1212 who can take the details and alert the police in that area. As you were on King Street, I'm sure if you asked in one of the shops they would of let you borrow their phone to call the police.
Regarding the comment on police giving out parking ticket, parking is controlled by parking enforcement staff  who do not work for the police. Police can give tickets for traffic offences of which there are many. The police on the buses, are part of the safer transport teams  which were created after requests to make the buses safer.
It does bug me the amount of police bashing that goes on on this forum.
