Modern electric trains are relatively quiet so noise should be minimal. I am now going to indulge in the "when I was a boy" scenario. I used to live at the lower end of Emanuel Avenue. Acton Yard was then the major London marshalling yard for the Western Region of British Railways. Shunting of goods wagons to make up goods trains would start in late evening and continue overnight. The noise of wagons crashing together would wake up those unused to it (my wife) as would noisy steam and later diesel hauled overnight express trains on the main line. This is clearly an ongoing issue. |
