| Tricky business at the high end. We went to one of my favourite restaurants for lunch yesterday to celebrate nephew's birthday....the first and last courses were great as were the veggies and yorkshire. But the meat, "roast" beef, was horrid: touogh, fibrous, chewy, generally unpleasant. (and I thought also over-cooked) I said as much to the manager - pointing out all the good things too. It was a new menu and he hadn't tried all the dishes but said he would. By the time we had finished and paid (they not only didn't charge us for the two beefs but didn't point out that they weren't doing so - there's classy) they had sacked their butcher. Apparently they have so many vying for their custom that they don't see that as a disproportionate response. Maybe mine wasn't the only comment...maybe the manager tried it and agreed. But who would be a butcher in those circumstances? |
