My point may well have been bought up before in the other thread so if it has apologies for repetition. It's just that this all seems far too simplistic to me. Oh it's just so easy to start and maintain a good school! The website states they will "Attract and retain outstanding teachers". The only way to do this is to pay teachers private school teaching rates - where does this money come from? They won't get preferential treatment from the government (and nor should they) so this will need to be from sponsors - probably parents which therefore makes it a private school. Maybe they will allow a company to sponsor the textbooks? "Maths with McDonalds"? It will have "High standards of behaviour for students and staff". Again, if this was so simple, existing schools would be able to control the kids now and there would not be any discipline issues. I'd be interested to hear what discipline structure they will have in place. I can imagine, if the school will be as inclusive as they state, that kids will be expelled on a regular basis ... probably ending up in at Acton High School ;-) If, as claimed, this school receives the same amount of funding as existing schools and if it makes up the rest with private funding (ie, it's a public private partnership) then great. However, I think it's not going to be as easy as they make it sound and it would be refreshing to hear less academic waffle about "holistic approaches" and "life long learning" and more about how they actually intend to achieve these results through practical means. Unfortunately I can't come to the meeting. Any chance someone can video and release on YouTube? |
