Netanyahu, like Putin, has played Trump like a cheap violin, flattering and promising him one thing and then doing completely the opposite, hence Trump's impotent rage when Benny bombed another hospital or school when he'd been oh-so sincere about towing the line. It took an international effort including -- to my surprise -- Blair and Jared Kushner (who probably realised his botched Abraham Accords were a mistake) as well as Jonathan Powell, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They gently took Trump to one side, slapped him around and told him to grow a pair and stand up to Netanyahu.
There is also the fact that the deal agreed on is the same deal that Biden proposed back when he was President. A quiet little meeting with Trump later, Netanyahu rejected it. The war was in both their interests.
Hey, at least it distracted everyone from the Epstein files, his attacks on the press and judiciary and his sending troops into cities. For a while, anyway. |
