Last Tuesday I wrote to Cllr. Hashani, Cllr for North Acton, with Cabinet responsibility for Libraries asking some of these questions:"Dear Cllr. Hashani

“Acton Town Hall, Northolt and Southall Libraries are being given a £900,000 new look to create spaces for cultural and community events.”

Acton Library and community rooms were purpose built and opened c. 2014, please could you explain why they now need so much money spending on them? Please explain exactly what you will be doing to the Library and community rooms?

“Books will always be at the heart of our libraries but by making the spaces more flexible they can provide so much more, from entertainment, drama performances on a stage in the library to community meetings or celebrations.”  There are already rooms which can be hired, however, like the new community rooms on the South Acton Estate, they are too expensive for most community groups.

We had a perfectly good stage in the Town Hall, it was demolished so why wasn’t a performance room included in the new build?

Will these performances take place during Library hours when people are trying to work?

“Celebrations” – in a Library? Will alcohol be allowed?

How late will the building be open for celebrations?

Which local community centres in Acton will be closed to accommodate these upgraded? rooms?

Why weren’t the community approached as to their views on their building instead of this top down decision?
I would prefer the money to be spent on a decent women’s changing room and internal access to the gym from the changing room without having go through the public area.

Why was this incorrect and confusing “Acton Town Hall” press release allowed to be published?

Quite honestly this looks like another LBE mess up and waste of money."
She hasn't replied.

Perhaps some of you could also write to Cllr.Hashani hashanib@ealing.gov.uk
