Dee, That may have happened in the past, probably more in central government than local government and more on the revenue side than the capital side. This process in LBE is quite orderly nowadays. An allocation of funds is made well in advance and a paper comes to cabinet in February/March listing the roads to be surfaced in the next financial year. The problem recently has been that the Labour administration is spending £8 million less than the previous Conservative administration and for whatever reason that reduced spending is not coming to Acton. There is a backlog of road investment because the 1994-2006 Labour administrations cut back on road spending quite recklessly. They only spent £12 million in 12 years. Indeed in 1999/2000 they spent absolutely nothing on road resurfacing. In 2010-2014 Labour will allocate £17.5 million against the £25.5 million allocated by the Conservatives in 2006-2010 a cut of £8 million or 31%. |
