I feel for you on this after going through the exact same thing when I rented.  Ours even went as far as the gas people attempting to access the property when we was out at work. They were unscrewing the door handle after gaining access through the main front door.  It was only cos our upstairs neighbor came down and stopped them that we found out what was going on.

We trusted our landlord to be paying all the bills as we was on an all inclusive contract but we soon found out this was not the case.  He had not paid any of the bills and we had bailiffs etc at our door.

We eventually moved out and got nothing for all our troubles over the year we stayed there trying to sort out the problems with the agency and landlord.

It is hard for you to get anywhere as the companies involved wont talk to you or even take payment and you not pay your rent to cover the loss as you are not named (we tried all these avenues).  So where you stand in terms of what is happening is any ones question as the companies are only concerned in getting their money.
