They have not said they will not allow people to have cars; merely that they will give them details of cycle routes & bus routes. From previous postings about the Bromyard development, where no allowance was made for cars, it caused a huge increase in traffic & parking problems in the area. Apparently, even though people were not allowed to buy parking permits, they were allowed to buy vouchers, so they did add to the congestion. Also not sure how it would be 'less than the raft of buses'. I am not saying people should not be allowed cars, because I have one. I find it ludicrous that developers pretend that people will not have them, so the status quo will not be affected. Encouraging people to use their cars less, still leaves the need for parking. That aside it is not just cars that are the issue. Packing 85 flats into such a tight area is purely to satisfy the desire for the developer to make as much money as possible. I'm not sure that consideration has been given as to what it will be like for so many people to be crammed together. I think -with some imagination-the Tram Depot could be developed successfully on a smaller scale. The problem is imagination is not something developers are noted for. (Except when justifying appeals...) Finally - they have knocked down the Harvester next to Ealing Common tube to build - retail units and flats. They have built flats in Larden Road on the site of the old Lucas Factory. How much more can the infrastructure take? |
